Fanart Is Still Art

I remember, mostly in 2007, when there there was a huge movement bashing anime fanart. (And by huge I mean I've seen just two users.) They complain that using other people's characters in art is unoriginal. Well, chew on this: it still takes creativity to design the picture, i.e. the pose and other elements of composition. Take a look at one of my pieces for example [link] and tell me I didn't use symmetry and color to great effect. Above all, art is not supposed to be any one thing.
